Using SiteChat

When you successfully log in to a SiteChat chat room, the SiteChat main window appears. This window contains all of the controls and options you need to communicate in "real time" with others who have joined the chat room.

Using the buttons

The following buttons make it easy for you to create, customize and manage your chat messages.

Button Description
Bolds your message text.
Italicizes your message text.
Displays a color picker. Use this to apply colors to your message text.
Displays a number of different images you can add to your chat message. When you select an image, the related image code is inserted into your message. When you send the message, the code is translated into the correct image.
Sets your current status to "Away." If your status is already "Away," this returns your status to "Back." Others in the chat room can view your status.
Clears all messages and text from the chat window.
Enables you to save the current chat session as a text file.
Launches the online help.
Ends your chat session.
When you select a nickname in the Participants list, displays that person's profile information.
When you select a nickname in the Participants list, enables you to start a private chat with that person. Other people in the chat room cannot see your private messages.
Hides messages from the person selected in the Participants list. The person will not know that you have chosen to "ignore" them. The names of people you are currently ignoring appear in plain text (instead of bold text) in the Participants list.

Using the Chat tab

The Chat tab enables you to view the activities in the current chat room. For example, you can see how many people are currently in the chat room, who is entering and leaving the chat room, and the different messages that are being sent back and forth.

Using the Settings tab

The Settings tab enables you to set different options that control how the chat room looks, sounds and operates. These settings apply only to you; others will not be affected by your settings.

Using the My Profile tab

The My Profile tab enables you to provide some personal information about yourself that you would like to share with others who join the chat room. All of this information is optional. If you do enter some information on this tab, participants will be able to view it by selecting your nickname in the Participants list and then clicking the User Profile button.

Using the About tab

The About tab displays version and copyright information for this application.
